He raced as a three and four year old, winning one race at Hastings Race Course in Vancouver Washington.
A larger than average Thoroughbred, Brego’s body could not tolerate the competing forces of his own
physical growth and the demands of racing. With an injured knee and poor race record, Brego was
relegated to $3500 claiming races until February of 2006 when he fell out of site. Some 14 months later
he reappeared on a well know Yakima Washington feedlot, depressed and despondent, his affect clearly
showing his understanding of the fate he was awaiting.

I stumbled upon his listing in April of 2007. With only pictures and a brief description to go on, I studied this horses eye. Through the depression, I was able to see this horse’s spirit. Brego was purchased sight unseen that day, and we began a journey of healing together. After restoring him back to a proper weight, Brego underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove the three bone chips lodged in his knee. After two years of intensive rehabilitation and training, Brego became our newest Equine Guide and Teacher.
Each member of our herd brings a unique gift to their teaching. Brego’s gift is healing. He has a profound impact on those suffering from any kind of trauma. His eye is now huge and expressive. His heart is warm and open. This gentle giant, who stands just over 17 hands, works collaboratively with all people and all ages. |
